Another winter storm on the way for most of Wisconsin, with up to 8 inches of snow forecast for some areas

This story has been updated.

Spring is around the corner, but for now, a burst of wintry weather is expected statewide from Thursday into Friday.

A winter storm forecast to bring 4 to 6 inches of snow to southern Wisconsin will also impact the rest of the state, the National Weather Service said, bringing with it wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour.

The storm is still expected to move into central Wisconsin by 6 p.m. and the Fox Valley and Green by 8 or 9 p.m., said Scott Cultice, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

There's now more confidence about the snow totals, too, along with the possibility of additional lake enhancement in communities near Lake Michigan, Cultice said.

Fond du Lac, like many communities further south, has a Winter Weather Advisory issued for between 4 to 7 inches. of snow

A Winter Storm Warning has already been issued for Sheboygan, Kewaunee and Manitowoc, with expected snowfall about 5 to 8 inches.

Meanwhile, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for much of central and northeastern Wisconsin, including Door County, Stevens Point, Marshfield, Wisconsin Rapids, Appleton, Oshkosh and Green Bay. Those communities could get between 4 to 6 inches.

Further north, Wausau, Oconto and Shawano are forecast to get less snow — about 2 to 4 inches.

Expect to put some work into shoveling, too. The snow falling is expected to be "heavy, wet, packing snow," Cultice said.

And, as a result of the storm, slippery and snow-covered roads could affect the Friday morning commute.
