6 Mississippi Coast restaurants fail health inspection, two for bugs or rodents present

Six kitchens in South Mississippi were cited for critical violations in the last three weeks.

These restaurants were given Cs following inspection by the Mississippi Health Department:

IHOP Restaurant, 2680 Beach Blvd., Biloxi, had a scheduled inspection July 5.

It was cited for:

Insects, rodents or animals present

Corrected during the inspection were:

Food separated and protected

Proper cold holding temperatures

This was the first C dating back to 2009.

Gulf Regional Livestock Cafe , 157 Rocky Creek Road, Lucedale, had a scheduled inspection June 28.

It was cited for:

Insects, rodents or animals present

Improper cold holding temperatures (repeat)

Last inspection permit not posted

Corrected during the inspection were:

Food obtained from approved source

Proper hot holding temperatures

Proper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use

This is the third C dating back to 2020.

Shaggy’s Grill, 1763 Beach Blvd., Biloxi, had a scheduled inspection July 7.

It was cited for sewage waste water not properly disposed.

Corrected during the inspection were:

Toxic substance properly identified, stored and used

Hot and cold water available at adequate pressure

This is the eighth C dating back to 2014.

The Blind Tiger, 265 Beach Blvd., Biloxi, had a scheduled inspection July 5. It was cited for required records available shell stock tags parasite destruction (records not available during inspection that show that shellfish parasites have been destroyed).

Corrected during the inspection were:

Proper cooling time and temperatures

Proper cold holding temperatures

Proper date marking and disposition

Food separated and protected

This was the fourth C dating back to 2017.

Maas Food Mart, 11569 Lorraine Road, Gulfport, was inspected July 5 for a permit renewal.

It was cited for hot and cold water not available at adequate pressure

Corrected during the inspection was: Adequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible

This was the first C dating back to 2022.

Brookdale Senior Living, 2120 Enterprise Dr., Biloxi, was inspected July 5 for a permit renewal.

It was cited for hot and cold water not available at adequate pressure.

This is the second C dating back to 2016.

Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if violations are corrected during the inspection, and “C” if the violations are critical.

Since June 22, there have been 152 restaurants in South Mississippi that scored an A for no violations and 23 that got a B when violations were corrected during the inspection.
