The 6-year-old boy who wound up in a coma after being struck in the head with a baseball bat in Georgetown, Texas, is making “unexpected progress,” his father announced Friday.

Background: Jeremy was asleep in his bed at around 5 a.m. on Sept. 11 when a neighbor, 39-year-old Daniel Logan, allegedly broke into their Rock Mill Loop home and bashed his head with the bat. The suspect, who is now in custody, also tried to attack the child's parents, Yilin and Arturo.

Logan also hit his own mother, Cynthia, with the bat, according to reports. The 65-year-old was struck after allegedly chasing her son to stop him from attacking their neighbors.

Latest status: In an update on their GoFundMe page, Arturo shared that Jeremy remains in critical care as of Friday. However, the boy has made “unexpected progress” from initial expectations and is stable, he said.

Thursday morning, doctors also began looking into weaning him off the ventilator as “it appears he no longer needs its support.” Previously, he started moving his limbs.

“It's been two weeks and the unexpected progress from Jeremy's initial expectations to where he is now are night and day, and we are grateful, considering that he was very active before the horrifying event slowed him down,” Arturo wrote. “He remains in critical care, as is the case for the type of injury, but he is stable and we are grateful for the progress he continues to show — he’s a warrior and I, a proud Papa.”

Suspect charged: Logan, who was arrested immediately, has been charged with injury to a child and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a family member, both first-degree felonies. A motive is still being investigated.
