6-year-old boy dies in 2-vehicle crash in Gilbert

A 6-year-old boy died on Thursday after a crash that involved two vehicles in Gilbert.

According to Gilbert police, the collision happened just before 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Baseline Road and Val Vista Drive.

Police said the boy was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. He was later pronounced dead. The boy's identity was not released.

Police did not provide additional information regarding the crash or if other injuries were reported.

Brenda Carrasco with the Gilbert Police Department said that a traffic reconstruction team was at the scene investigating the crash.

Traffic exiting south from U.S. 60 onto Val Vista Drive is restricted and drivers are advised to avoid the area, which is closed off while police are at the scene.
