6-year-old learning to drive crashes into store while dad watches, California cops say

After a car went through the front of a convenience store in Stockton, the California Highway Patrol found an unlikely driver behind the wheel — a 6-year-old.

“A father stated to a CHP-Stockton Officer, that he was teaching his son to drive a car,” CHP said in a Facebook on Monday. “His son was seated in the driver seat and in control of the car. Dad was walking right next to the car. He was walking just outside the driver side door and window, coaching his son from the outside.”

The dad told his son to make a left turn to go to the Corner Market and stop there, police said. His son mixed up the pedals and instead of hitting the brake, he slammed the accelerator.

“His son being the good listener made a left turn,” police said. “However since he is a novice driver, the son, mistakenly depressed the accelerator and drove right into the Corner Market.”

Police said no one was injured, but the property was damaged.

“This was a property damage only traffic collision with a big lesson learned for the driver and dad,” CHP said.
