6 things to do in the Canandaigua area this week

As August winds down, a few events will help you to hang on to summer, even as September is less than two weeks away.

CMAC is still going strong, especially if you love the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Jimmy Buffet, Zac Brown Band and Kenny Chesney.

And if you love the outdoors, the Woods and Wildlife Outdoor show is coming to the New York Steam Pageant Association grounds.

Here is what’s happening this week.

1. What song is it you want to hear at CMAC?

Lynyrd Skynyrd, the southern rock band famous for “Free Bird” and many other classic rock hits, will be joined by ZZ Top, the little old band from Texas that made “Sharp Dressed Man” a classic rock staple, will perform in concert at CMAC. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24. Tickets start at $36 and are available at Ticketmaster.com.

2. Woods and Wildlife Outdoor Show in Canandaigua

Lumberjack competition? You got it. Chainsaw carving? Yep. Trick roping demonstrations? That, too. The Woods and Wildlife Outdoor Sportsmen Show will be held 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at the New York Steam Engine Association grounds, 3349 Gehan Road, Canandaigua. All sorts of events are planned. Tickets are $8 presale and $10 at the gate. For details, visit woods-wildlife.com.

3. Tour Canandaigua’s lakefront

The Ontario County Historical Society starts its fall lakefront tour at 2 p.m. Aug. 25. The roughly one-hour tours highlight the City Pier, Skenoh Island, Kershaw Park and more. Perhaps you'll see windsurfers take to Canandaigua Lake.
