1. 'Plant-itary Orbits' train show at Mitchell Park Domes

The Mitchell Park Domes' spring train show opens at 9 a.m. Jan. 14. This year's theme is "Plant-itary Orbits," in which four G-scale train tracks pass through unusual groupings of miniature trees and celestial flowers. It's in the Show Dome through March 26. Admission at the Dome, 524 S. Layton Blvd., is $9, $6 for students with I.D., kids ages 3 to 12 and people with disabilities, and free for kids 2 and younger. Info: mitchellparkdomes.com.

2. Martin Luther King Jr. Day events in Milwaukee

Several events in the Milwaukee area this weekend mark Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. Among them:

  • "Working Toward a World of Peace" is the theme of the 39th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration from 4 to 6 p.m. Jan. 16 in Uihlein Hall at the Marcus Performing Arts Center, 929 N. Water St. Admission is free. Info: marcuscenter.org.

3. Waukesha Janboree

The 2023 edition of the Waukesha Janboree kicks off Jan. 13 with doings including a survival camp in Lowell Park (5 to 9 p.m.), a Glow Wild Walk in Frame Park (5:30 to 8 p.m.) and fireworks in Lowell Park at 8 p.m. The Janboree, with free activities in multiple locations in Waukesha, runs through Jan. 22. 4. MBA Home Building and Remodeling Show at Wisconsin State Fair Park

The 2022 MBA Home Building & Remodeling Show runs Jan. 13-15 at the Wisconsin Exposition Center at State Fair Park.

For those with notions of home improvement (or replacement), the MBA Home Building and Remodeling Show returns to the Wisconsin Exposition Center in State Fair Park Jan. 13-15. More than 100 exhibitors and demonstrations are part of the proceedings. The MBA show runs from noon to 7 p.m. Jan. 13, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m .Jan. 14 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 15. Admission is $10, $6 for members of the military and seniors 65 and older. Info: mbaonline.org.
