6 updates for Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza: From a prom pop-up to an escape room

2023 is bringing several changes in and around the Country Club Plaza.

Here are six of the latest updates:

House of Prom by David’s Bridal plans a Wednesday opening at 422 Nichols Road.

The new pop-up concept will carry floor-sweeping gowns, shoes and accessories including jewelry, headpieces and handbags. It will have giveaways during opening weekend. It is scheduled to close at the end of business April 23.

David’s Bridal is only opening four other prom pop-ups this year in Arizona, California, Massachusetts and Virginia.

The Escape Game has been going through city planning for several months and is now scheduled to start construction in February at 320 Ward Parkway. It plans a summer opening.

It said its highly produced sets take customers on story-driven missions with clues to uncover and puzzles to solve in an hour.

The Nashville-based company has 29 locations across the country. It is typically in vacation hot spots such as Orlando and Honolulu and liked that the Plaza draws locals and visitors.

The current tenant, Ricca Sposa bridal salon, will relocate to downtown Kansas City.

Charlie Hustle, the popular local apparel company, has been at 419 W. 47th St. since 2014. But it is now temporarily at 4747 Broadway (formerly Michael Kors) through February. Infrastructure work is being done in front of its permanent location.

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar, which was founded in Japan, has a permit for the former T. Loft space at 200 W. 47th St.

A company spokeswoman said in a statement, “Unfortunately, we are still in progress of executing the contract and are not able to officially announce this with the public just yet.”

Seville Dental Aesthetics is taking a space at 606 W. 48th St. No opening date was available.

Levi’s Store has a permit for 441 Nichols Road. Company officials could not be reached for comment.

Aloft Hotel Kansas City Country Club Plaza opened this month overlooking the Plaza, and Cascade hotel will open next door later this year. California’s Johnny Was plans a new Plaza store. But longtime tenant Zocalo Mexican Cuisine & Tequileria is closing Sunday.
