The surge in COVID-19 cases caused by the omicron variant delayed the Palm Beach Opera Guild's 60th anniversary luncheon for so long that it really should be renamed the 60th-and-a sixth.

But no matter. The two-month postponement turned the winter event into a Spring Luncheon.

More Palm Beach society news here.

The 60th-and-a-sixth anniversary luncheon took place March 18 at The Colony.

Arlette Gordon and Gail Worth were chairwomen for the afternoon, which, in addition to a social hour and luncheon, included an operatic interlude by Duke Kim.

Kim, an alumnus of PBO’s Benenson Young Artist Program, is currently a Cafritz Young Artist at the Washington National Opera, and was featured at Santa Fe Opera last season as Lysander in "A Midsummer Night’s Dream."

The Grand Finals Winner of the 2021 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, Kim earned critical acclaim for his performance as Camille in the opera’s season-ending production of "The Merry Widow."

Ari Rifkin and Tova Leidesdorf were honorary chairwomen.

Lisa Huertas is president of the guild.

More than 100 people attended the luncheon, including guild officers Cathy Solomon, Marilyn Mims, Barbara Weimer, Jean Gutkin, Sheryl Wood, Huertas and Rifkin; board members Joanne Berkow, Vera Chapman, Louise Cohen, Maude Cook, Lisa Koeper, Claude Lourie, Lorraine Mari, Huntley Miller, Philip Robinson, Linda Wartow and Leidesdorf; and Palm Beach Opera board members David Genser, Jeff Alderton and wife Lee Ann, Judy Kaufman and husband Jerry, Paulette Koch, Todd Lazenby and David Walker, general and artistic director of the Palm Beach Opera.

Proceeds from the afternoon assist the Palm Beach Opera Guild in its mission to promote awareness of opera through its support of the opera’s education and outreach programs.
