61 pools in Fort Worth had serious health or safety violations in April. Did yours?
As the weather warms, Fort Worth health inspectors are busy checking out public swimming pools at apartment complexes, residential communities, hotels, country clubs and even the splash pad at the Fort Worth Zoo.
What they find isn’t always pretty.
A Star-Telegram analysis of 194 pool and spa inspections conducted in April found that dozens were dinged for safety threats, improper chlorine levels or pH, poor maintenance, dirty or non-functioning filters and skimmers, algae or other violations.
When the problems are serious, the inspectors order the pool to be closed until the issues are resolved.
Nearly 100 of the inspections at 61 locations resulted in the pools either being closed or not allowed to reopen yet for the season.
The closures were at 49 apartment complexes, six hotels, two country clubs, two neighborhood communities, a senior living building and a school, according to the city’s records.
In most cases, the pools get the green light to reopen soon after.
You can view the complete inspection records (including pools that had violations but weren’t ordered to close) farther down in this story, and search for your community or keywords in the violations.

Here are the inspection observations for public pools and spas within the city limits of Fort Worth for April 2023. Pools and spas must meet local and state minimum health requirements such as the proper maintenance of water disinfection, filtration/circulation systems, safety features, signage, etc. The health inspections are not graded, but if violations or deficiencies are present, the facility owner/operator is required to remedy the conditions of deficiency immediately or within a reasonable period of time. To search the inspections, type in a keyword or pool/spa name.
