62-year-old Waverly woman identified as victim of Bradford County Susquehanna River crash

Officials have identified the victim of a fatal car crash early Wednesday morning south of Athens as a Waverly woman.

The Bradford County Coroner's Office confirmed Cathy E. Barry, 62, was the sole occupant of a vehicle that went off Sheshequin Road in Sheshequin Township and plunged into the Susquehanna River.

The 2008 Pontiac G6 was southbound on Sheshequin Road near the intersection with Scenic View Lane around 5:45 a.m. Wednesday when for unknown reasons, it veered off the east side of the roadway, according to Pennsylvania State Police at Towanda.

The vehicle flipped over and came to rest on its roof in the Susquehanna River, troopers said.

Barry was born in Sayre, the daughter of the late Jonathan Fenton and Esther May Fenton, according to her obituary.

Barry, who enjoyed fishing and swimming, among other activities, is survived by her husband, four children, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren, her obituary stated.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
