65-year-old dies after pickup truck hit bicyclist on US 41 in Bradenton, FHP says

A 65-year-old Bradenton man on a bicycle was killed when he was hit by a pickup truck while crossing 14th Street West on Tuesday morning, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

The fatal crash happened at 9:50 a.m. near the intersection of 14th Street (also known as U.S. 41) and 45th Avenue Circle West.

Troopers say that the Bradenton man was riding his bicycle east across U.S. 41 when he was struck by a Chevy work truck driven by a 27-year-old man from Palm Beach Gardens, traveling southbound.

The truck hit the left side of the bicyclist, and he came to a final rest in the southbound lanes of 14th Street.

Manatee County EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.

The bicyclist did not have the right-of-way when he crossed the street, FHP said.

The crash continued to cause traffic delays on Tuesday afternoon to the north and south of Cortez Road as an investigation remained in progress. As of 1:15 p.m., all lanes of 14th Street were clear.

Manatee County Sheriff’s Office also responded to assist FHP in traffic control.
