65-year-old kayaker missing after not returning home from fishing outing, PA reports say

Authorities in Pennsylvania are searching for a 65-year-old man who went missing during a fishing outing.

Pennsylvania State Police say Shane Allen Phillips, of Sycamore, was reported missing Thursday, May 18, in Franklin Township. His disappearance came at Wisecarver Reservoir, where he was fishing.

“When he did not come home as expected, discovery of both his vehicle and kayak were found at the scene,” according to a Facebook page devoted to the case. “An extensive search from all local authorities on Friday and Saturday has turned up nothing.”

Family members told WPXI that Phillips has lived in the area his entire life and knows the land well. Rebecca Phillips, the missing man’s daughter, called the unsuccessful searches “disheartening.”

“To not know where our father is, is just surreal,” Rebecca Phillips told the station.

Loved ones said in the Facebook group the family is “at a complete loss.”

Phillips is described as 6 feet tall and 180 pounds with gray hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information about Phillips’ whereabouts is asked to contact Pennsylvania State Police at 724-627-6151.

We’re just looking for answers and we would appreciate any information,” Linette Phillips, Shane Phillips’ wife, told KDKA. “Since the authorities have concluded that part and those resources have been exhausted, we’re turning to the public. Any even trivial piece of information that they feel is trivial might lead to finding him at this point.”

Franklin Township is about 60 miles south of Pittsburgh.
