I-69 update: Banta Road intersection to close in early December

MORGAN COUNTY - The intersection of Banta Road at State Road 37 will be closed early next month to allow for the completion of the State Road 144 interchange, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

INDOT provided its latest project update on the I-69 Finish Line Monday morning, in which it urged all motorists to take extra precautions when traveling along the route.

The update said Banta Road will be closed "before the southbound on-ramp from State Road 144 is connected." This means all motorists traveling south will need to use the official detour from State Road 37 to County Line Road. Local access roads will also be available for travelers through Smith Valley Road or the Henderson Ford interchange.

Construction crews also remain busy installing right-of-way fencing and cable barriers along State Road 37.

Last week a new southbound State Road 37 exit ramp to Southport Road opened.

The final bridge beams for the future I-69 will be delivered early this week, according to INDOT. As a result, motorists should expect delays if traveling northbound on State Road 37 between Fairview Road and Bluffdale Drive.

The bridge beams will be installed after the holiday weekend. Road crews will temporarily halt all work on the corridors by 12 p.m. on Wednesday in anticipation of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Work is still underway to remove median barrier walls on I-465 between Mann Road and State Road 37, meaning lane closures will continue during the evening hours this week.

INDOT confirmed the left lanes of westbound and eastbound I-465 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. all of this week. The right lane on I-465 between Lick Creek Road and U.S. 31 will remain closed during overnight hours as well. Additionally, waterline work at State Road 37 and Harding Street and the I-465 interchange will continue until at least early December.

Lastly, the update asked all motorists to be mindful of wildlife, as the colder temperatures typically bring greater deer activity.
