I-69 Finish Line corridor prepares for anticipated road work

Despite winter's arrival, and the cold temperatures which comes with it, work continues to take place along the State Road 37/I-69 corridor in Morgan, Johnson and Marion counties.

"Freezing temperatures can limit some activities such as asphalt paving, but other construction work will continue through the winter to keep the project on track for a 2024 opening," the Indiana Department of Transportation noted it a project update released Monday morning.

Here is the work anticipated to occur throughout the corridor's three counties in the coming weeks.

Morgan County

Motorists are asked to drive slowly through the exit ramp from northbound I-69 to State Road 39/Morton Avenue. Crews will be installing temporary and permanent signage and buzz strips will be added once weather permits.

Construction crews are adding new pavement markings and are anticipated to open southbound lanes of State Road 37 to two lanes either later this week or early next week between Banta Road and Martinsville.

Drivers are asked to watch for crews in the area of the Henderson Ford Road roundabout as workers instal pipes and drainage outlets in order to improve drainage in the area.

Johnson County

On Monday, crews were expected to shift traffic south on State Road 144 between State Road 37 and the White River bridge. During this time, the width of lanes will be narrowed.

Huggin Hollow Road is expected to shift to new pavement later this week or early next week to allow for the realignment north of State Road 144.

Lane closures are anticipated this week along southbound State Road 37 from Stones Crossing Road to Olive Branch Road as crews work in the shoulder from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"Banta Road is now the first (State Road) 37 traffic signal north of Evansville," INDOT noted. "It is important to stay alert as drivers adjust to the new traffic pattern."

Late last week, a Martinsville man died after a semi truck rear-ended his vehicle at the Banta Road and State Road 37 intersection.

Marion County

INDOT asks motorists to watch out for closures along Belmont Avenue in southern Marion County for utility work between State Road 37 and Winslet Boulevard.

The Mooresville Road Bypass bridge over I-465 is expected to close beginning next month. The closure is anticipated to last three months. The detour around this closure is using Mann Road, Thompson Road and High School Road.

The Madison Avenue bridge is also expected to close for more than six months beginning in February. The detour around this closure is Thompson Road, Keystone Avenue and Hanna Avenue.

Later this year, the Mann Road and Carson Avenue bridges over I-465 close for replacement.

"The actual starting date and duration for work and any closures may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur," INDOT notes in the release.
