GREEN − The newest and eighth shrine at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Road, was recently installed by Eagle Scout John Paul "J.P." Moorhead, 15.

Moorhead, 15, a Queen of Heaven parishioner and member of Boy Scout Troop 334, designed and built a shrine to St. Dymphna, the patron saint of those with mental illness.

The Lake High School sophomore is the son of Mark and Brandy Moorhead.

Queen of Heaven's pastor, the. Rev. David R. Durkee, suggested the project to Moorhead.

“The shrine will provide a refuge, a quiet place to pray and feel comforted," he said.

The shrine, which has lighting, is in a wooded area behind the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel at the southeast end of the church’s parking lot. It is adjacent to two previous projects, the “Divine Mercy Shrine in the Woods” and “A Walk With The Saints,” completed by other Eagle Scouts in 2022.

The master plan and layout of this spiritual retreat on the nearly 17 acres on the Queen of Heaven Church grounds has been developed over time by the many Eagle Scout and other projects suggested by Durkee.

“These projects were built for all to experience peace, joy and happiness on holy ground," he said.
