Dry skin. It is such a pain. Not only does it mean I cower away when it rains but I am wary of crying, using allergy eye drops and sweating (be it through exercise or hot days).

As someone who has had dry skin all their life, I have finally (at the age of 26) found seven great products to use when my skin needs a pick me up…which is every single day!

1. Boots No 7 - Dry Skin Rescue

No7 Beautiful Skin Dry Skin Rescue, £12.00 available at Boots

Not only is this cream a lifesaver, it is only 12 quid! For non-make up days, apply it liberally in the morning and double before bed! It will seriously do wonders for those dry patches and will be fantastic after swimming, sweating or general wear and tear that daily life does to your skin! I cannot live without and have not done so for a good six to twelve months. Best of all, it sinks right in so it never will impact your make up.

Apply: Before your moisturiser for make up days and both before and after moisturiser for non-make up days.

2. Carmex Mint Lip Balm

Carmex Mint Moisturising Lip Balm Tube, £2.31 available at Amazon

The first time I tried Carmex was in 2013. I bought the plain one and hated the taste so much, I didn’t use it for a long time. Not only that, the tingling sensation the first time you use it, will think your lip is being cut open. Tears ran as I sat on the bus home. However, Carmex redeemed themselves in their mint lip balm. I thank the heavens for this lip balm everyday. It’s been discontinued in shops so the Amazon link above is where you can go to get some. Let me just list what mint Carmex is good for:

  • Cuts

  • scrapes

  • grazes

  • scratches

  • allergic reactions (a go to quick fix until getting your prescribed meds)

  • insect bites

  • red noses (during colds and flu)

  • rashes

  • split lips

  • dry spots

  • fixing ashy elbows

I use mint Carmex on my face as soon as I get caught in the rain, use allergy eye drops or cry. Because these three things cause the worst dry patches, I put a liberal 10p size amount over the dry patch and go to sleep. I’ve also smothered it over whole areas such as cheek, chin and forehead….so basically, everywhere. It’s fantastic!! Put it on your nostrils when you have had a flu and you’ve blown your nose enough for it to be peeling, put it on bites, put it on everything. My family laugh at my addiction but it’s good stuff! I swear! Stock up!

Apply: Anywhere and everywhere, as often as needed

3. Boots No 7 - Very Dry Skin Night Cream

No7 Beautiful Skin Night Cream for Dry / Very Dry, £13.50 available at Boots

I am a very strange person so I use night cream both day and night. Something about night cream suits me better and nothing is better than this! Boots No7 dry skin night cream is literally fantastic. It mixes in well with foundations, works well with Carmex and Dry Skin Rescue and is lightweight.

Apply: Anytime you need it

4. Lush Cosmetics - Dream Cream

Dream Cream, £12.50 available at Lush

When my brother was about seven or so years old, he went to camp and climbed a tree. Believe it or not, he got this intense rash that left him with open wounds on his face, he developed eczema and his skin has never been the same again. Out of nowhere, his fingers will bleed. We went to Lush and they gave us this. He’s now 19 and he hasn’t got half the problems he once had! He still has some skin issues but not to the extent he once had and it’s because of this.

Me personally, I would recommend this to absolutely anyone (as would Halle Berry). I actually mix it with my No 7 night cream every time I buy a new tub of cream. I scoop out half the night cream (and decant it into a clean jar) and add two heaped tablespoons of Dream Cream and mix until well incorporated. Call it a magic mix. It really is. The Dream Cream adds herbal and medicinal qualities to the night cream and when I wake, my face feels brilliant.

Apply: All day, everyday (on non-make up days) when your skin is going through a particularly bad time.

5. RAW - Coconut Oil

RAW Health Organic Raw Virgin Coconut Oil,

£4.60 available at

Amazon

I use coconut oil on my hair everytime I wash it. Having a curly afro means it needs a lot of moisture and this is part of my LOC method. I also use some on my face. One of my mother’s work colleagues gave her a coconut oil, orange flower oil, Vitamin E mix that she makes herself at home. My skin has never been the same. It’s like silk and this is one of the main reasons. Yes, whilst everyone was cooking with it, I was using coconut oil on my hair and face. It works wonders.

Apply: Extra at night and wake up to smoother skin that will be without dry patches.

6. St Ives Invigorating Apricot Scrub

St. Ives Invigorating Apricot Scrub, £2.79 available at Boots

I forgot about this product for about six months and had sad skin. Yes it was still good because of the other five products listed above but it was dull. This scrub is wonderful! It lifts skin back to where it was! It’s tough little scrubbers make it easy to lift the dirt and dry patches off your skin and it leaves you smooth like a baby’s bottom.

As someone with dry skin, it has been suggested that we exfoliate three times a week and it’s a truth! We might not have oily skin but it needs just as much scrubbing to get rid of what’s blocking the skin’s moisture!

Apply: When your face is wet (though for a bit more scrubbing action, I exfoliate on damp skin then wash off) and work into the skin in circles before washing off with tepid water

7. Boots No 7 Cleansing Balm

No7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Balm for Dry/ Very Dry Skin,

£9.50 available at Boots

I swear that this list is not sponsored by Boots. Part of the holy Trinity of dry skin products, this cleansing balm is calming, soothing and refreshing. It takes of make up (more face, less eyes) and will leave your skin cool afterwards. Smells good too!

Apply: At the beginning of your skin care routine
