For the first time in Casualty's history, the show will break format by featuring commentary from real-life medical professionals.

The episode, which focuses around a motorbike accident, will showcase the extraordinary efforts made across the length and breadth of the emergency medical services to save a patient – from ambulance call handlers, to nurses, paramedics, doctors, HEMS teams, surgeons, and beyond.

Jan and Teddy receive the call of a devastating motorbike accident and get to work immediately.

Teddy leaps out of the ambulance to treat Amartya – the rider – leaving Jan to contend with the traffic, which is at a standstill.

Jan and the ambulance eventually get through and are met with the other emergency services and Iain by air ambulance.

They all work together to formulate a plan to safely remove Amartya from underneath the van. However, it becomes clear that his injuries are more severe than they first thought, leaving them with some tough decisions to make.

In the helicopter, Amartya's condition takes a turn and Iain thinks there could be another bleed somewhere that they've missed.

Stevie doesn't see a reason why he should still be there, but he demands an apology for the long wait.

Remaining calm even amongst the chaos, Stevie is forced to apologise – until he is eventually escorted out by security.

Eli hasn't been seen since Holby went off air in March 2022, but the Darwin and Keller wards are still ticking along in the fictional land of Holby City, and he'll be on hand to help Stevie out with Amartya's life-changing injuries.

Casualty will air the special standalone episode on Saturday, July 15 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
