7 ECI players compete in North/South All-Star baseball and softball games over the weekend

MUNCIE, Ind. — Seven East Central Indiana baseball and softball players competed in North/South All-Star games over the weekend, an annual honor where the state's top talents showcase their skills.

The Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association North/South All-Star Series was held at Indiana Wesleyan University June 24-26. Saturday's doubleheader was split by both squads, first a 10-6 victory for the North All-Stars via a walk-off grand slam, followed by a 16-8 South win.

Sunday's game, won 4-3 by the South, featured wood bats as every player donned their school's unique jersey.

The North team featured four ECI athletes: Wes-Del Zack Todd, Wapahani's Luke Willmann, Monroe Central's Aidyn Coffey and Yorktown's Jacob Pruitt. The only local representative on the South was New Castle's Aydan Decker-Petty.

Willmann was a designated-hitter in Game 1, caught half of Game 2 and was the starting catcher in Game 3, compiling a single and double in seven at-bats. Coffey played some third base and walked four times overall, and also reached base on an error after a line-drive. Pruitt singled and scored on Sunday. Todd tallied two K's in two innings pitched.

In Saturday's Softball Coaches Association of Indiana North/South All-Star Classic doubleheader at Indiana University Bloomington, Yorktown's Alanah Jones and Winchester's Gena Moore both represented the District 4 for the South team that won 4-2 and 7-2.

Jones went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, and pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts and just one hit allowed. Moore started both games in the outfield and went 1-for-3 with a single in her first at-bat.

2022 NCC All-Conference teams announced

The North Central Conference announced its All-Conference softball selections, which featured four players from Muncie Central's eighth-place team.

Senior captain Micayla Vecchiolli-Morris (CF/1B) and junior Raine Farley (CF) made the First Team, and junior Rebecca Giver (C/3B) and sophomore Camerin Goode (2B/OF) made the Second Team.

American Legion Muncie Post 19 prepares for wood bat tournament

The American Legion Muncie Post 19 team (7-5) will compete in the Fourth of July wood bat tournament at Highland Park Stadium in Kokomo from July 1-3.

The roster features Delta's Cooper Roach, Wapahani's Landen Thompson, Isaac Jackson and Luke Willmann, Jay County's Kess McBride, Quinn Faulkner and Crosby Henhiser, Cowan's Cade Brinson, Austin Jones and Mac and Alex King, Yorktown's Hayden Carrow and Jacob Pruitt, and collegiate players Gavin Noble (Wapahani) and Will Anderson (Winchester).

The team's most recent outing was a split with Piqua Ohio on Saturday, falling 8-4 in Game 1 before winning Game 2 8-7 in 13 innings. Faulkner led the way with a two-run homer in the first contest. In Game 2, Adams tallied two hits and three RBIs, and Jackson had four hits and two RBIs.

Hole-in-one at Muncie Elks

Brian Kunz on Monday made a hole-in-one at the Muncie Elks Golf Club. According to Brian Hill, Kunz hit a 9 iron on hole No. 2 124 yards for his second ever hole-in-one. Kunz's witnesses were Charlie Kyte, Sunny Burton and Steve Wuthrich.
