During the summer all we want to do is head outside, soak up the sunshine while it lasts and have fun with our friends, but this can prove to be an expensive time, especially in London. But it doesn’t need to be.

Southbank Centre’s Cabana’s Copacabana Beach

We’ve all seen the rise in urban beaches taking over areas in London but the Southbank Centre’s summer offering is one you can’t miss. To celebrate the Rio olympics the South Bank is paying homage and creating our own Brazilian paradise complete with eighty five tonnes of white sand. Alongside this there will be traditional Brazilian food on offer and enough caipirinha to leave you thinking you’re in Brazil.

Nomad Outdoor Cinema

This summer Nomad bring their outdoor cinema to all sorts of quirky London areas to screen some of the best movies from classics like Pulp Fiction and When Harry Met Sally to modern movies like Mad Max and Inside Out. The season runs right through to September and you can bring your own picnic if you want to tuck into some treats during the show.

ArcelorMittal Orbit Slide

Belgian artist Carsten Holler has designed a brand new addition to the Olympic Park’s sculpture-cum-attraction which boasts as being the world’s longest and tallest slide. Not for the faint hearted you can slide down 178m of tubing while watching out over some of the best views in the city. The attraction only opened this summer so buy your tickets in advance.

Visit the brand new Tate Modern

On June 17th a new Tate Modern was opened sitting at ten storey high. The extension called The Switch House provides 60% more exhibition space with plenty of new exhibitions and places to explore. Head here on a drizzly summer’s day or in the height of the sunshine when you just need to shield yourself from the heat.

Head to Notting Hill Carnival

Of course you already know about the famous Notting Hill Carnival, but make 2016 the year you actually head along. As Europe’s biggest street festival the spectacle represents London’s multicultural past and present so make sure you have August Bank Holiday marked in your diary to catch the performers and parades all around the city.

Sky Garden

The Sky Garden is a famous enlarged glass dome sat 155 metres up on the top of 20 Fenchurch Street and houses three storeys of landscaped public gardens including an observation deck and open air terrace. It is free to head up the tower but it gets very busy so reserve your spot ahead of time.

Party at Roxx on the Roof

After two sell out years the Roxx team are back taking over the rooftop of the Sanctum Hotel Soho for the whole summer. Every Saturday from 2nd July doors will open from 3pm where DJ’s blast out a blend of house and party anthems and plenty of other treats such as beat boxing, vocal showcases, themed parties, fashion shows, screenings and much more. You can even take a dip in their rooftop jacuzzi so bring your swimwear. Book your tickets in advance because they increase to £20 on the night.
