Though it’s likely been a while since you last stayed at a fancy hotel, we know that feeling you used to get when you first stepped into your room hasn’t checked out of your memory. You still remember those sweet-scented toiletries, the quiet coffeemaker and those way-too-comfy slippers. And man, what is it about hotel bedding that just does something to you?
We can’t say for certain what it is that makes those sheets feel so special, but whatever it is, we’ve been trying to relive the experience on our own beds for some time now. Thankfully, a number of hotel brands have found a way to smartly monetize our desire to revisit these moments by selling their familiar wares to past and future guests.
More from Rolling Stone
From Hilton’s beloved sheets to the very bubble bath used at The Ritz-Carlton, these seven items transport you to your favorite hotel in a matter of minutes. And in these still-uncertain travel times, that may be the best way to escape.
1. The W South Beach Robe
Your Miami trip from a few year ago is a blur of fun and fireball shots. But even in the haze of recollection there’s one weekend highlight that you’ll never forget—the W Hotel’s super plush robe. Sure, you’ve had warm robes before but there’s something about this Boca Terry number that makes the robe presently hanging in your bathroom feel inadequate. Made with plush polyester, deep pockets and a handy hood, it’s the perfect wardrobe piece for a Saturday morning at the W or a lazy Tuesday in your own apartment.
2. The Ritz-Carlton New York Bubble Bath
The Ritz-Carlton is synonymous with luxury and this five-star Manhattan property exudes elegance at almost every corner, including its guestroom baths. When you set foot in the marble-clad room’s tub, you’re formally introduced to Antica Farmacista, one of the finest luxury fragrance labels in the world.
Its 50 Central Park bubble bath lathers well and its aromatic blend of elderflower, mint and strawberries is something straight out of a fragrant fantasy. If an easy walk around the iconic Manhattan park on a glorious spring day could be bottled, it would smell like this.
3. The EDITION Hotel Candle
It’s been scientifically proven that certain smells conjure memories, so it makes sense then that some hotel brands would have signature smells wafting about their lobbies. Consciously or not, these places want you to remember your time with them.
For a more luxurious experience, we like this candle from the EDITION hotels, with notes of rich black tea, earthy patchouli, cedarwood and musk rounded off with top notes of Sicilian bergamot and fig. It’s all presented in a chic glazed black candle holder, with accompanying gift box to match.
4. The Hilton’s Bed
The hotel sleeping experience is what many attempt to replicate once they get back home. Be it the sheets or mattress itself, your evening rest just always seems best when you’re away. If you’ve wondered how you can mimic the slumber from a past trip, please don’t sleep on Destination Home by Hilton’s wonderful offerings. With everything from fitted sheets and support pillows to duvet covers on its relaxing roster, your bedroom can easily feel like one of theirs with just a few clicks. And if you’re up for the full room transformation, you can even order the same Beautyrest Innerspring mattress you snoozed on at the Hilton Garden Inn, too ($1799, Wayfair).
5. Le Meridien’s Toiletries
The Le Meridien chain of hotels is the playful-yet-sophisticated sibling in the Marriott family, making its partnership with the Malin + Goetz skincare line so sensible. The New York-based outfit might take a simple approach with its packaging (no wacky logos, no punny product names), but anyone who’s tried the Sage Body Wash or Lime Bar Soap during their Le Meridien visit will tell you that the company is serious about its ingredients. Malin + Goetz’s website offers these items and a host of fragrances, shampoos and other items that make getting ready feel so right.
6. 21c Museum Hotels’ Art
With “Museum” in its name, you best believe art is a major component of 21c’s overall aesthetic. When we last stayed at the Nashville location, in fact, there was an impressive exhibit of recycled art on display. Though those works have been replaced, the Cracking Art collective’s parade of plastic animals are full-time residents at the Tennessee address and the other 21c locations. These colorful wolves, bears and birds, sprinkled around the hotel’s public spaces, restaurants and rooms, make great conversation pieces. We talked about stuffing one of the four-foot penguins in our carry-on, but online ordering made a whole lot more sense.
7. Four Seasons and Marriott Hotel Towels
One of the most respected names in the hospitality industry, The Four Seasons skimps on nothing—even down to the face towels. And that’s no hyperbole. We honestly don’t know if we’ve ever felt softness on our skin quite like their 100 percent low twist cotton towels ($199, Four Seasons).
The Marriott Chain offers their new towels for sale too, with a six-piece towel set in a crisp, white hue (pictured above). The popular set includes two bath towels, two hand towels and two washcloths in a soft and fluffy finish.
The Marriott Shop is also one of the best places to shop for hotel product online, with everything from linens to fragrances to furniture available to purchase. Now, if only there was a way to add a case of the brand’s exemplary service and dining to your cart as well.
