Here are the 7 Peoria-area boys basketball teams headed to the 2023 IHSA sectionals

Below are the results involving Peoria-area teams from Friday's Illinois High School Association boys basketball regionals.

CLASS 3A

Richwoods

  • How they won: The eighth-ranked Knights used a big quarter to beat city foe Manual, 64-56, at the Peoria High Regional title game. Richwoods, which ended a 13-year regional title drought, put three players in double figures led by Sabri Qattum's 13 points, eight coming in the deciding quarter. The Big 12 Conference co-champion Rams (21-10), who lost three times to Richwoods this season, were paced by 12 points and seven rebounds from Louis Bailey.

  • What's next: Richwoods (24-5) faces Rock Island (21-12) at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Galesburg Sectional semifinal.

Metamora

  • How they won: Top-ranked Metamora made its postseason presence known in a big way, beating East Peoria, 60-44 in the Washington Regional title. Tyler Mason scored a team-high 22 points, while Tyson Swanson (19 points) and Drew Tucker (11 points) also were double-digit scorers. East Peoria (19-13), which suffered three losses to the Redbirds this season, saw its season end despite a game-high 24 points by Justin Page.

  • What's next: Metamora (29-2) faces Sterling (24-8) at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Galesburg Sectional semifinal.

CLASS 2A

Princeton

  • How they won: Fourth-ranked Princeton maintained its winning ways with a 68-37 victory against Stillman Valley. The Tigers find themselves back in the sectional for the second successive season, now seeking its first Elite Eight berth since 2009.

  • What's next: Princeton (31-2) faces the Prophetstown/Erie/Port Byron Riverdale winner (they meet at 7 pm. Saturday) on Tuesday in the Orion Sectional semifinal.

CLASS 1A

Elmwood

  • How they won: Elmwood grinded out a 35-33 win over ROWVA/Williamsfield in the title game at the United Regional. The Trojans are in the sectional for the second time in five years, while avenging a 12-point loss to their Inter-County Athletic Conference foe from Jan. 6.

  • What's next: Elmwood (22-9) faces Illini Bluffs (30-4) at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Bushnell-Prairie City Sectional semifinals.

Peoria Christian

  • How they won: The Chargers are sectional bound for the fourth time in a row, beating host Princeville, 72-62, in the regional title game. PCS has won 13 of its last 15 with its only losses coming to Illini Bluffs and Springfield Calvary, which both won regional titles.

  • What's next: Peoria Christian (24-10) faces Camp Point Central (26-4) at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Bushnell-Prairie City semifinals.

Illini Bluffs

  • How they won: Second-ranked Illini Bluffs took care of Mount Sterling Brown County, 56-39, in the Lewistown Regional title game. Hank Alvey (15 points) was one of three players in double-figures for IB, including Devon White (14 points) and Wyatt Hendel (11 points). The Tigers went 10-for-10 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. IB beat Elmwood by 30 on Jan. 27.

  • What's next: Illini Bluffs (30-4) faces Elmwood (22-9) at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Bushnell-Prairie City Sectional semifinals.

Midland

  • How they won: Host Midland, which was seeded fourth in the sub-sectional, took care of St. Bede, 60-46, to win the regional championship. The Timberwolves had lost four of six entering the postseason, but are at the sectional level for the first time in 11 years and fourth time ever. Midland beat St. Bede by 28 on Jan. 18.

  • What's next: Midland (24-9) faces Chicago St. Francis de Sales (12-21) at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Putnam County Sectional semifinals.
