7 places to take Mom if you don't have brunch reservations for Mother's Day

If you're looking to go out for Mother's Day but couldn't secure a coveted brunch reservation, there's no need to fret. Austin is full of fun places to celebrate the mother figure in your life, and some of them are even free to experience.

Whether your mom is outdoorsy, competitive or a shopaholic, here are some non-brunch ideas for Mother's Day:

Austin Greenbelt

If there's a break in the rain on Sunday, you can take the mother figure in your life on a hike through the beautiful Austin Greenbelt. The main trail measures 7 miles, and there's a swimming hole known as Twin Falls.

You can also swing by the Museum of Illusions for some topsy-turvy photo opportunities.

Let your mom unleash her inner artist at Café Monet, where you can paint your own pottery from mugs to plates to ceramic animals. The studio operates from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday, and they allow both walk-ins and reservations.
