When you're at school, it can feel like there are a lot of rules to remember. And while loads of them are probably quite necessary (no running in the corridor, kids!), others feel less so - especially with hindsight.

But what was the most ridiculous rule you had to follow at secondary school? People on Reddit are sharing their stories, and from certain colours being banned to scheduled toilet breaks, it's safe to say some of them are pretty hilarious.

1. 'We weren't allowed to wear t-shirts with Bart Simpson on them'

"We weren’t allowed to wear t-shirts with Bart Simpson on them because he was glorifying being a troublemaker and underachiever. This was in the 90s. Parents who wouldn't let their kids watch The Simpsons because they thought it was a bad influence. Compare that to TV today, and wow."

2.'We could only go to the bathroom a certain number of times a day'

"Our school was VERY strict about bathroom schedules. You had a pass you took with you all day, and teachers would sign off on when you'd go to the bathroom. Often, teachers wouldn't let you go if you just went within the last few periods. This was absolute HELL if you were sick."

3. 'We weren't allowed grapes'"

"One time in secondary schoo, a friend of mine threw a grape in the air to catch it with his mouth but it bounced off his face and hit someone else. It took about two minutes until a full blown food fight broke out. From that day forward we weren't allowed to have grapes. You couldn't bring grapes from home, the cafeteria could no longer serve them. It was considered actual contraband."

4. 'We weren't allowed umbrellas because a student thought he was a vampire'

"My school made it so that umbrellas were not allowed, no matter what the weather was like. The main reason was because there was y student who believed he was a vampire, who dressed like a vampire and wore fake teeth. He creeped everyone out, even the faculty! He always carried an umbrella like penguin from Batman, so they banned them."

5. 'We couldn't tie jumpers around our waists'

"We weren’t allowed to tie our sweatshirts around our waist. It was permitted to have them around our shoulders so I made it my daily battle to figure out methods of tying it around my upper body in fun ways. Loopholes, man."

6. We had to wear our blazers at all times - unless we asked to take them off'

"We were not allowed to take our blazers off without permission at certain times of the year. There would be a day in the summer when blazers were announced as no longer compulsory but if there was a random warm day before this, you’d have to ask a teacher if you could take it off. If I’m hot, I shouldn’t have to wear my blazer?!"

7. 'We'd get detention if we wore purple'

"My gym teacher would give anyone who wore anything purple a detention. She just hated the colour, and the school let her do it. When I told my parents, they said I was lying, and that it was a bad lie. Then they learned that it was true, and apologised to me profusely, and yet the school board would do nothing."
