Happy 187th birthday to our better half, the Upper Peninsula, whose near perfection often goes unnoticed by the rest of the world — literally.

On Dec. 14, 1836, a landmark agreement granted the land now known as the Upper Peninsula to Michigan, which then became a state on Jan. 26, 1837. But even in 2023, it's not uncommon for major organizations to leave Michigan's treasured top half completely out of maps ... or labeled as part of Wisconsin (come on!).

So in honor of the U.P.'s big day, here are seven times the world disrespected you. And here's hoping the world learns from its mistakes this time.

Fox News' 'Hannity' mistakenly labels Upper Peninsula as Canada

Conservative talk show personality Sean Hannity was discussing Wisconsin's 2020 election recount efforts during "Hannity" on Fox News in November 2020 when a map of Wisconsin aired on the screen.

Surrounding states such as Michigan, Minnesota and Iowa labeled in initials on the map. But the Upper Peninsula was labeled ... "Canada."

'Saturday Night Live' leaves Upper Peninsula off map

During "Weekend Update" on "Saturday Night Live" in October 2019, a graphic appears next to co-host Michael Che during a segment where Che suggests "after all this whole impeachment thing is over we could just take a year off from presidents."

"We can afford a break, right?" Che asks. "As a country."

But look closely and there it is, a map of the U.S., with the U.P. missing from the state of Michigan.

The U.S. Census Bureau used a graphic showing Michigan will lose a seat in Congress, but it left off the Upper Peninsula as part of the state.

The Upper Peninsula was once again snubbed. This time on a map from, of all entities, the U.S. government.

In a tweet explaining the results of 2020 census, the U.S. Census Bureau used an animated graphic explaining that Michigan would be a losing a seat in Congress because of population decline.

There's only one problem: It didn't indicate the U.P. as part of Michigan.
