Lenexa man killed in I-70 crash near Grain Valley involving two semi trucks

GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. — Westbound Interstate 70 near Grain Valley, Missouri, is back open Wednesday night following a multi-vehicle crash where at least one person died.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the crash happened just after 2 p.m. on westbound I-70 just before Adam’s Dairy Parkway. The crash involves two vehicles, including two semitrailers.

MSHP reports the driver of a semi and the driver of a Ford Excursion slowed for traffic when the driver of another semi struck the rear and pushed the Excursion into a guardrail. That semi then struck the rear of the other semi.

A passenger in the Excursion was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries. He has been identified as 28-year-old Robert Cox, of Lenexa, Kansas. He was wearing a seat belt, according to MSHP.

The driver of the Excursion was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash caused the roadway to be blocked for several hours.
