71-year-old New Bedford man killed in two-vehicle crash at Route 18 and Elm Street

NEW BEDFORD – A 71-year-old New Bedford man was killed this morning in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 18 south and Elm Street.

Police said the deceased has been identified as Robert Jorge, 71, of New Bedford. He had been driving one of the vehicles.

Police said they responded to the site at about 7:15 a.m. The second vehicle’s driver received minor injuries, police said.

The incident remains under investigation by officers assigned to the New Bedford police accident reconstruction team, as well as Massachusetts state police troopers. Police said both departments express their sincere condolences to friends and family members of the deceased.
