An Oakridge man was hit and killed by a car driving through Oakridge on Highway 58 Saturday night, according to Oregon State Police.

The pedestrian killed was identified as Dale Michael Roberts, 71, who was crossing the highway near milepost 35, when he was hit by a white Kia Soul driving westbound. OSP and emergency personnel received a report of the crash and responded at around 6:45 p.m.

Roberts was pronounced dead while being transported to an area hospital, OSP said in the news release.

The vehicle's driver was a 53-year-old Oakridge man, who OSP said displayed indications of impairment, leading to him being arrested on suspicion of DUI.

OSP said Lane County District Attorney Patricia Perlow's office will consider additional charges after police complete an investigation. Oakridge police, its fire department, and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted with the response.
