72 individuals leave their physical disabilities behind while they surf the waves of Jax Beach

This Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Lifeguard Station 2 Ocean Front North, Jacksonville Beach, 72 individuals will take to the water and leave their physical disabilities behind while they surf the waves, some for the first time ever.

Brooks Rehabilitation’s Adaptive Sports & Recreation offers athletes of all ages and abilities the opportunity to participate in sports they never thought possible. This is their 14th year hosting the surfing event in Jacksonville Beach.

To ensure their safety, Brooks Rehabilitation recruits a team of over 250 volunteers to assist on land and in the water.

Brooks ASR provides weekly activities and special events to individuals who have experienced a spinal cord injury, stroke, brain injury or other illness and/or debilitating injury. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate in any of the sporting activities. Participants can compete at either a recreational or competitive level in each of our individual and team activities. Most activities do not require a fee for participation and include the specialized equipment and instruction.
