After operating in Morton for 72 years, the Carius family Dairy Queen is closing its doors.

The announcement was shared on the Morton Chamber of Commerce Facebook page on Feb. 15.

“We would like to thank each and every one of you who have made each day special by stopping by to say hi, wave, honk your horn, greet Jim as he sprayed off the walks or purchased treats,” the announcement from the family read.

The family began to reevaluate its operation due to Dairy Queen’s recent “system requirement changes,” according to the statement. This ultimately led to the shutdown.

The Chamber of Commerce thanked the family for its years in the community and offered support moving forward.

While the statement did not list specific plans for the space, the family wrote that they "are excited to see what this year brings as we explore new options for 214 S. Main Street."

The Carius family included memories of connecting with the community over the years and thanked everyone who had supported them over the years.

“We know times have changed drastically over these years, but we have enjoyed the consistency of a 'small town' feel and care, for which we will be forever grateful,” the statement read.
