I-75 to shut in Detroit this weekend: How to detour

Interstate 75, both northbound and southbound, will be closed from Springwells Street to Clark Street  this weekend in Detroit due to construction.

The closure, part of the Gordie Howe International Bridge project, will allow for the setting of new girders along I-75 and for the demolition of the Junction Street bridge.

The Clark Street bridge is now open and can be used for detours throughout the weekend. There will be several signs throughout the area to direct drivers to the safest route.

Here're the roads that will close this weekend along with detours you can take:

Friday 7-9 p.m.

Both northbound and southbound I-75 will be reduced to one lane between Springwells Street and Clark Street. Three lanes will be closed.

Friday 9 p.m. to Monday 5 a.m.

All lanes of I-75 between Springwells Street and Clark Street will be closed. The Vernor highway on-ramp and the Ambassador Bridge on-ramp to southbound I-75 will close. The Springwells Street on-ramp to northbound and exit-ramp from southbound will close.

Detours for local traffic

Northbound traffic will need to exit at the Springwells Street exit ramp, continue south on Springwells Street, east on Fort Street, north on Clark Street, then rejoin northbound I-75 using the Clark Street on-ramp.

Southbound traffic will need to exit at the Clark Street exit ramp, continue on the southbound I-75 Service Drive, south on Clark Street, west on Fort Street, north on Springwells Street, south on the I-75 Service Drive then rejoin southbound I-75 using the Springwells Street on-ramp.

Detours for major I-75 through traffic

Northbound I-75 major through traffic will be detoured around the project via northbound I-275 to eastbound I-96.

Southbound I-75 major through traffic will be detoured around the project via westbound I-96 to southbound I-275.

Detour for the Ambassador Bridge ramp to southbound I-75

Southbound traffic will be redirect to westbound I-96. They will take exit 191 to Michigan Avenue, head west on Michigan Avenue, south on the I-75 Service Drive, south on West Grand Boulevard, west on Fort Street, north on Springwells Street, south on the I-75 Service Drive, then rejoin Southbound I-75 using the Springwells Street on-ramp.

Detour for the Vernor Highway on-ramp to southbound I-75

Southbound traffic coming from southbound I-75 Service Drive will continue south on the I-75 Service Drive, south on W. Grand Boulevard, west on Fort Street, north on Springwells Street, south on the I-75 Service Drive, then use the Springwells Street on-ramp to rejoin southbound I-75.
