757Teamz picks: No. 6 King’s Fork, top-ranked Oscar Smith meet with Southeastern District title on the line

Top-ranked Oscar Smith has lost only three games in the Southeastern District since 2004.

The Tigers also have won at least a share of 15 of the past 16 district titles. The only year they didn’t win was 2018, when Indian River won it.

Oscar Smith has a chance to continue its domination Friday when the Tigers host unbeaten King’s Fork. The game will be the National Federation of High Schools Network National Game of the Week.

The Bulldogs (5-0 overall, 4-0 district) are one of those three district teams to beat Oscar Smith. They defeated the Tigers in 2017.

This season, King’s Fork has outscored opponents 153-27.

“We just got to keep getting better,” said Bulldogs defensive end and Virginia Tech commit Kyree Moyston, who has 37 tackles and nine sacks.

King’s Fork hopes to put a penalty-riddled win over Deep Creek behind. The Bulldogs were flagged 15 times.

“We definitely have to clean up these penalties,” King’s Fork coach Anthony Joffrion said. “It’s something we definitely need to improve on because one of these games it’s really going to hurt us.”

Oscar Smith, the defending Class 6 state champion, has dominated its Hampton Roads competition, though the Tigers (4-1, 4-0) lost 49-0 to nationally ranked St. John Bosco of California.

Tigers running back Kevon King has rushed for 604 yards and 13 touchdowns, while quarterback Ethan Vasko, an Old Dominion commit, has completed 47 of 88 passes for 845 yards and seven touchdowns, with two interceptions.

The Bulldogs are led defensively by Moyston, Jason Cole (47 tackles), Tavias Higgs (six sacks) and Bravion Campbell (30 tackles).

Offensively, they will count on QB Cameron Butler (570 passing yards, seven TDs) and WR Kaletri Boyd (10 receptions, 260 yards, four TDs).
