76th State amateur basketball tourney set for this weekend at Madison

MADISON — Teams from Watertown, Redfield, Clear Lake, Faulkton and Lake Preston are among the 18 scheduled to compete for Class A, B and C division championships in the 76th South Dakota State Amateur Basketball Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

The tourney opens at 10 a.m. Saturday and continues through the Class A championship that is slated for 6 p.m. on Sunday at Madison High School.

Tourney Teams

Class A: Sioux Falls Quoin Bank, Rapid City HESAPA, Watertown Foothills Contracting, Mitchell Only Threes, Rapid City We Are Farmers and Madison A. No Class A champion was crowned in 2022. Foothills Contracting won the Class B division for the third time in six years.

Class B: Corsica Rexwinkel Concrete, Huron Michelob Ultra, Dell Rapids, Wolsey Warkings, Clear Lake Swenson Welding and Redfield Haider Construction. Haider Construction won the Class C division title last winter.

Class C: Faulkton, Sturgis Scooptown, Watertown Waterboys, Lake Preston New Horizon Lounge, Sioux Falls Avalance and Madison C.

Saturday Main Gym: Faulkton vs. Sturgis, 10 a.m.; Corsica vs. Huron, 11:20 a.m.; Quoin Bank vs. HESAPA, 12:45 p.m.; Dell Rapids vs. Corsica-Huron loser, 2:10 a.m.; and Foothills Contracting vs. Quoin Bank-HESAPA loser; Madison C vs. Lake Preston-Avalanche, loser, 6 p.m.; Madison A vs. Mitchell-We Are Farmers loser, 7:30 p.m. A Legends Game is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Saturday Auxiliary Gym: Lake Preston vs. Avalanche, 10 a.m.; Wolsey vs. Clear Lake, 11:20 a.m.; Mitchell vs. We Are Farmers, 12:45 p.m.; Waterboys vs. Faulkton-Sturgis loser, 2:10 p.m.; and Haider Construction vs. Wolsey-Clear Lake loser, 3:30 p.m.

Sunday Auxiliary Gym: Waterboys vs. Faulkton-Sturgis winner, 11 a.m.; Dell Rapids vs. Corsica-Huron winner, 12:20 p.m.; and Foothills Contracting vs. Quoin Bank-HESAPA winner, 1:45 p.m.

Sunday Main Gym: Madison C vs. Lake Preston-Avalanche winner, 11 a.m.; Haider Construction vs. Wolsey-Clear Lake winner, 12:20 p.m.; Madison A vs. Mitchell-We Are Farmers winner, 1:45 p.m.; C championship, 3:15 p.m.; B championship, 4:30 p.m.; and A championship, 6 p.m.

Watertown-Aberdeen Area Teams

Waertown Foothills Contracting (Class A): Kyle Wiesner, Ryan Burggraff, Josh Hanson, Sean Melmer, Ryan Boike, Casey Grimsrud, Landen Geerdes, Justin Brown and Dustin Tetzlaff.

Clear Lake Swenson Welding (Class B): Derek Trooien, Trevor Petersen, Keenan Soyland, Thomas Roethler, Lincoln Swenson, Justin Cassels, Curt Boeke, Brent Kreause, Brock Hanten, Trevin Holland, Falcon Albers and Matt Anderson.
