77-year-old man dies after crashing into rock wall near Harrington

A 77-year-old Maryland man died in a single-car crash near Harrington on Friday evening, according to Delaware State Police.

Around 6:16 p.m. on Friday, a 2007 Chevrolet HHR being driven by the man was traveling west on Vernon Road, just west of Prospect Church Road, according to police.

For “unknown reasons,” police said, the Chevrolet traveled off the north side of the road, continued west for a short distance and struck a small rock wall on the side of a tax ditch.

The man from Denton, Maryland, was taken to a local hospital where he later died. His name is being withheld, pending notification of his next of kin.
