77-year-old stabbed to death near university where she used to work, Ohio police say

A former Ohio State University employee died after she was stabbed near the campus, police say.

Officers were called to the University District near the OSU campus on reports of a stabbing Sept 9, according to WCMH. Officers found Emily Foster, 77, suffering from a stab wound and said she died just minutes after they arrived, the outlet reported.

“I was shocked, and honestly in broad daylight, too. I feel like this area isn’t too bad, you know; there is definitely worse areas in the neighborhood. But it’s just awful to hear that,” Sophia Carnevale, who recently moved to the area, told WSYX.

Foster worked as an assistant vice president of communications for OSU before retiring in 2008. Her late husband also worked at OSU, teaching philosophy for 40 years, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

“We just had lunch with her three weeks ago, and she was doing very well physically, mentally and emotionally. She just loved that neighborhood, and it’s so tragic that she would meet her maker there,” Curt Steiner, a colleague of Foster’s, said to The Columbus Dispatch.

The stabbing happened around 4 p.m., the same time people were leaving the OSU football game just a mile away, according to WSYX.

The Columbus Police Department is investigating the stabbing as a homicide and currently have no suspects or a motive, according to WCMH.
