WOOSTER − Republican incumbent Scott Wiggam will retain his seat as the 77th State House District representative.

Wiggam won by nearly 14,000 votes with 25,798 to Democrat Mark Gooch's 11,402, according to unofficial results from the Wayne County Board of Elections.

Wiggam did not immediately return a call for comment Tuesday night.

"I am, of course, disappointed, but I feel I did my best," Gooch said about the election results. "I think the board of elections ran a great election this year, so I am very thankful for all of their hard work."

Gooch ran on a platform that was built on the idea that he could bridge the gap between the parties in Wayne County and bring communities together to solve problems.

The librarian at the College of Wooster prioritized local jobs and production and clean energy, but he also advocated for women's right to have an abortion, police reform and stricter gun laws.

Wiggam, who wants to reign in on crime and a growing disrespect of law enforcement, also advocates for clean energy with a focus on local jobs.

Like his Republican colleagues, he disagrees with gun regulations and laws limiting access to firearms while also supporting limited access to abortions.
