7th Inning Stretch Festival returns to Shelby
With summer storms popping up all around, the skies stayed clear for Saturdays 7th Inning Stretch Festival in Shelby.
“We were blessed. It rained all around us, and it did not rain at the festival,” said Judy Gaultney, office manager of the American Legion World Series office in Shelby.
The free festival is held each year on the Saturday before teams arrive to compete in the American Legion World Series. This year’s festival was the first since 2019 because of COVID-19 concerns.
Events were held throughout the day including the Little 2022 Little Miss American Legion World Series.

Toddler Miss: Eva Reid
Mini Miss: Charlee McLeymore
Tiny Miss: Lillee Falls
Little Miss: Kynslie Overstreet
Junior Miss: Haylee Charles
Mini Grand Majestic: Landon Johnson
Grand Majestic: Lillie Randall
People’s Choice: Scottlan Mangum
Musicians performed throughout the day, and a small circus also entertained.
The festival came to a close after sunset with the performance by multi-platinum country music singer Josh Turner.
The festival is held each year as a thank you to the community ahead of the series, which begins Thursday.
Teams began arriving in Shelby Monday.
