Starship Entertainment announced on Friday that eight members of 13-member girl group WJSN, also known as Cosmic Girls, have renewed their contracts.

The members who renewed their contracts with the South Korean agency include Yeoreum, Bona, Seola, Exy, Soobin, Eunseo, Dayoung and Yeonjung. Meanwhile, members Luda and Dawon have decided to terminate their contracts.

Chengxiao, Meiqi and Xuanyi, the three Chinese members of the group who were part of WJSN under Chinese agency Yuehua Entertainment, saw their contracts terminated automatically upon contract expiration. The trio have not actively promoted in South Korea since 2018, instead opting to focus on activities in China.

In an official statement, Starship Entertainment expressed gratitude to the group’s fans for all their love and support. The agency shared that they carried out lengthy discussions with Luda and Dawon before the two ultimately decided to end their exclusive contracts. The agency also said they respect the K-pop stars’ decision and assured their support for Luda and Dawon's future endeavors.

With Luda’s departure from the group, it is unclear if WJSN’s subunit group WJSN CHOCOME, which consisted of Luda, Soobin, Dayoung and Yeoreum, will continue to operate.

WJSN, jointly produced by the Starship Entertainment and Yuehua Entertainment, debuted in February 2016 as a 12-member group prior to Yeonjung joining in June of that same year. Their most recent release was the single album “Sequence” in July 2022. Last year, the K-pop act were crowned the winners of the second season of Mnet’s reality competition TV show “Queendom.”
