8 amazing SC pumpkin patches to fulfill your fall fun quota in October. Here’s where to find them

While you might not have a full pumpkin patch in your neighborhood like Linus in “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” these South Carolina farms are the next best thing.

Spooky season is again upon us. Tree leaves have begun changing colors and there is a crisp chill in the air.

With that comes the need for fall decorations and some fall-related fun. Why not combine both by visiting a pumpkin patch?

Multiple farms across South Carolina offer pumpkin patches and a host of other activities and entertainment.

Here are eight South Carolina farms with pumpkin patches you should try if you have the chance.

Legare Farms

Legare Farms in Johns Island has a pumpkin patch open every weekend through October. There will be plenty of pumpkin picking available. While you’re there, feel free to catch a hayride to feed cows or ride a horse if that’s what interests you.

And for kids with October birthdays, the farm offers pumpkin patch birthday parties that includes free gate admission for the birthday family and guests when reservations are made in advance.

Denver Downs

Denver Downs Farm in Anderson has been owned and operated by the Garrison family since 1869 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Once a cotton farm, it’s now a working farm dedicated to tourism and entertainment.

You can peruse the pumpkin patch to find your perfect future jack-o-lantern, then check out one or more of the farm’s dozens of other activities, such as a corn maze, hay rides, petting zoo, zip line and giant tube slide.

The farm is located at 1515 Denver Road.

Clinton Sease Farm

Located in Lexington, this farm has a pumpkin patch and a corn maze. Check out the pumpkins on your own, or schedule a full pumpkin patch tour by appointment. On the more than 2-hour tour, you’ll learn about the growth cycle of pumpkins, get a wagon ride to visit farm animals, have the chance to pick your own pumpkin and more.

The Sease Farm can be found at 382 Olde Farm Road. Check the farm’s website for full operating hours for the pumpkin patch and corn maze, along with ticket costs.

Dempsey Farms

This farm can be found on St. Helena Island. Not only can you check out its pumpkin patch, the farm lets you pick whichever one you want, along with other vegetables, depending on the season.

The family-owned, working farm has been in business for more than 60 years.

The farm accepts cash or checks. Operating hours and days may be limited depending on weather, so be sure to call ahead at 843-838-3656 or check their Facebook page for updates.

Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens

Boone Hall’s pumpkin patch in Mt. Pleasant is open from now through the end of October. The general admission of $15 for everyone 3 years old and older includes a host of activities beyond snagging a pumpkin, from a Halloween tractor tour and petting zoo, to pony rides, a magic show and a honey bee exhibit. Tickets are available online.

Boone’s Hall is located at 1235 Long Point Road.

Stewart Farms

Found in Enoree, Stewart Farms has pumpkins galore for visitors to pick. The working farm boasts of a more than 8-acre pumpkin patch with over 30 varieties of pumpkins in all shapes, sizes and colors.

But that’s not all the farm has to offer. There’s a corn maze, tractor wagon rides and farm animals to visit. There’s also a huge selection of fall garden mums and fall vegetables to pick.

Stewart Farms can be found at at 6600 Highway 92.

Cotton Hills Farm

Cotton Hills Farm in Lowrys has been in the Wilson family since 1882. The farm grows a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. In October, the farm opens up its 15-acre pumpkin patch. Visitors can pick whichever pumpkin they want on Fridays and Saturdays. There’s no entry fee, just pay for what you pick — jack-o-lantern-sized pumpkins are $0.60 a pound.

The pumpkin patch is located 2.6 miles north of The Market in Lowrys in York County on US 321 (Chester Highway). Look for the big sign at the entrance, then follow a gravel/dirt road to the field.

Holiday Farms

Found in Ridgeland, Holiday Farms has what it calls ‘The Great Pumpkin Patch,’ that will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday through the end of October. While there, feel free visit the farm animals or try a few other farm-related activities. The farm is currently taking reservations for groups.

Holiday Farms is located at 10884 Grays Highway.
