This year’s Brit Awards was a memorable affair, with the ceremony marking its milestone 40th birthday and all. Billie Eilish gave her first live performance of James Bond theme song ‘No Time To Die’, Lizzo killed it on stage with a medley of her hits, Maya Jama looked incredible on the red carpet, and Lewis Capaldi and his alcoholic beverages also played a starring role.

But, with it being a live broadcast and celebs being celebs, there were also some moments that people (mainly Jack Whitehall) are likely going to want to pretend never happened. From the host asking about Harry Styles' date (it was his sister) to Lewis Capaldi getting bleeped, here are 8 awkward moments you might have missed.

When Jack Whitehall thought Harry's sister was his date

"I don't want to pry, but is one of these ladies your date?" Jack asked the singer. "That's my sister," Harry replied. Jack then fumbled over his words and Harry's sister's face pretty much said it all. I.e. Not impressed.

When Lizzo had literally no idea what Jack was saying

During the ceremony Jack headed on over to Lizzo's table and started talking about how he saw her at Glastonbury, only she couldn't hear anything he was saying. And, yeah, it was pretty awkward.

When the official sponsor of the Brits confused Charli XCX with FKA Twigs

When Lewis Capaldi had to have his acceptance speech muted by ITV

The Scottish singer was the first on stage to collect his award for Best New Artist, but viewers at home pretty much only got to see him swigging his beer, getting bleeped and then walking off stage.

When Jack Whitehall savaged JLS

Of course it was just a joke, but Jack's quip about JLS was pretty savage considering it was their first time they had been at the Brits together in years. "... JLS reformed, making casting for panto season that little bit more difficult." Ouch.

When Jack called out the Brits for lack of female nominees 👏

"Environmental issues have been a big theme of awards show this year," the Brits host said. "And in the spirit of sustainability the Brits has been recycling all the same excuses for why so few women were nominated."

When Lewis Capaldi reminded us 'Someone You Loved' definitely isn't about Paige Turley

While accepting the award for Song of the Year, Lewis took the opportunity to remind everyone that 'Someone You Loved' was actually written about his gran. "Contrary to popular belief, a lot of people think this song is about my ex girlfriend who you can now see every night on Love Island... but it's actually about my grandmother who sadly passed away a couple of years ago and I hope to god ITV don't contact her to be on an ITV dating reality show," he told the crowd while standing in front of a bottle of Buckfast.
