8 boys, 8 girls Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte area teams in soccer regionals
After their epic overtime showdown in the district final, Class 2A-District 10 champion Saint Stephen’s Episcopal and runner-up Bradenton Christian School were rewarded with home matches in the first round of the regional tournament.
Saint Stephen’s drew the No. 5 seed and will be at home against No. 4 Cambridge in the Class 2A-Region 3 quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Bradenton Christian got the No. 3 seed and will be home against No. 6 Shorecrest Prep.
The other team playing at home is sixth-seeded Braden River, which will play host to third-seeded Naples in 5A-3. Also in 5A-3, eighth-seeded Parrish Community will travel to top-seeded Golden Gate in Naples.
Five area boys teams will be on the road. In 7A-2, district champion Riverview landed the No. 8 seed and will be on the road at No. 1 seed Newsome in Lithia. Also in 7A-2, Lakewood Ranch, which lost in the district semifinals, got the No. 6 seed and will be at No. 3 seed Gulf Coast in Naples.
Palmetto received the seventh seed in 6A-3 and will visit Sunlake in Land O’Lakes. In 4A-3, seventh-seed Lemon Bay will play at second-seeded McKeel Academy in Lakeland.
Boys regional quarterfinals are scheduled for 7pm Wednesday.
Girls soccer
In girls soccer regionals, eight area teams qualified with two area teams receiving the No. 2 seed in their respective regions.
Lakewood Ranch is second in Class 7A-Region 2 and will play host to seventh-seeded Plant at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Also in 7A-2, sixth-seeded North Port will travel to No. 3 Steinbrenner in Lutz.
Saint Stephen’s got the second seed in 2A-3 and will be home against seventh-seeded Indian Rocks Christian. Also in 2A-3, fifth-seeded Out-of-Door Academy will be at fourth-seeded Cambridge Christian in Tampa.
Parrish Community grabbed the third seed in 5A-3 and will be home against Barron Collier. Also in 5A-3, seventh-seeded Braden River will travel to North Fort Myers.
In 3A-2, district champion Cardinal Mooney is the seventh seed and will be home against second-seed Tampa Catholic.
Lemon Bay landed the seventh seed in 4A-3 and will be on the road at Academy of the Holy Names in Tampa.
Girls regional semis are 7 p.m. Tuesday.
