8 craft breweries in New England ranked among top 50 in America

If you enjoy craft beer, odds are you have sipped on a brew made by one of eight breweries in New England that were recently ranked among the top 50 in America.

The Brewers Association recently released its ranking of the top 50 craft breweries in America from 2022, and data showed that small and independent brewers collectively produced 24.3 million barrels of beer.

The BA classifies an American craft brewer as a small and independent brewer if it produces 6 million barrels of beer or less in a year and independent means less than 25 percent of the brewery is owned or controlled by a beverage alcohol industry member that isn’t a craft brewer. The brewer must also have a notice from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau.

With that said, New England was well-represented on the list of the top 50, with three breweries from Massachusetts earning high marks.

13. Athletic Brewing Company -- Milford, CT

16. Harpoon Brewery-- Boston, MA

20. Allagash Brewing Company -- Portland, ME

27. Narragansett Brewing Company -- Providence, RI

36. Fiddlehead Brewing -- Shelburne, VT

46. Shipyard Brewing Company -- Portland, ME

47. Jack’s Abby Brewing -- Framingham, MA

D.G. Yuengling and Son Brewery was ranked the top craft brewery.
