8-year-old boy found at home after leaving Deerfield Beach elementary school

An 8-year-old boy was found safe at home after he ran away from Park Ridge Elementary in Deerfield Beach Tuesday morning, officials say.

Aleus Alfred was under the supervision of a school employee when he ran away from staff and climbed the fence surrounding the school’s campus, according to Cathleen Brennan, a spokesperson for the Broward School District. School administrators immediately told the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Aleus’ parent was also at the school at the time that he ran off, Brennan said, and worked with school staff and deputies to try to find him.

The boy left the school at 5200 NE Ninth Ave. just before 11 a.m., according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, wearing a white hoodie with black at the bottom, shorts, and orange shoes.

In an update sometime between 2 and 3 p.m., the City of Deerfield Beach edited a post on Facebook to announce that Aleus had been found. He has been reunited with his family, the Sheriff’s Office said.

“Park Ridge Elementary School’s administration and District staff are grateful the student has been found safe at home,” Brennan said.
