SHREVEPORT, La. – Eight people were shot, including three children, on Sunday at a home in northwest Louisiana.

Shreveport police responded to a home for a report of a shooting just before 2 p.m. local time. Upon arrival, officers located five adults and three children – ages 3, 3 and 5.

The 3-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was listed in critical condition Sunday, police said.

Three of the adults were also listed in critical condition.

"It is obviously very disappointing to have another senseless act of violence," said Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux. "It does not appear to have been a random act. The police appear to think that this was a targeted circumstance."

Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith said police are investigating the shooting as a potential drive-by.

According to police, the number of shell casings found at the residence indicated the shooting was targeted. Bullets were located in the bedroom and the living room.

"To just shoot recklessly into a home ... the kids that were in there had no idea or nothing to do with what caused this, and that makes me so angry," Smith said.
