80-year-old woman was duct taped to bed on multiple occasions, NC deputies say

A 78-year-old North Carolina man is accused of injuring his wife on multiple occasions when he duct taped her to a bed, according to investigators.

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation began Wednesday, Jan. 10, when a healthcare worker reported seeing suspicious injuries on the victim while visiting a home near Mooresville.

“When (deputies) arrived, they spoke with home health workers, who told the deputies that they discovered the victim, who is 80 years old, had injuries possibly sustained while being forcibly restrained,” the sheriff’s office reported in a news release.

“After additional investigation and interviews, it was determined (the suspect) had tied the victim to a bed with duct tape on several different occasions.”

Details of the woman’s injuries were not released.

Deputies arrested her husband and charged him “with felony neglect of a disabled or elderly person with injury, misdemeanor false imprisonment, and misdemeanor domestic abuse,” the sheriff’s office said.

He is being held without bond, due to the victim being his wife, officials said.

Mooresville is about 25 miles north of Charlotte.
