81 vote early in Clovis as of Monday

Feb. 13—It's been eight days since early voting for Clovis city elections began Feb. 6.

Clovis City Clerk LeighAnn Melancon reports as of Monday 81 of the city's registered voters cast early ballots.

"The early voting at this time is typical. I think turnout is higher during a mayoral election," Melancon said.

Melancon hopes with articles in the paper and the candidate forums it will help people make up their minds and come in and vote.

"Social media has been more active in providing information to voters in this election," Melancon said.

"LeighAnn Melancon told me the early voting was right on par," Gail Tarson said.

Tarson is running for a city commission seat from District 2.

"I just encourage people to know their candidates before they vote. Get out, vote, know your candidates," Tarson said of the voting.

Victoria Robledo is also seeking the same District 2 seat as Tarson. Robledo is a big believer in early voting.

"I think it's a great way to get your voice heard. It allows you the flexibility of being able to vote on your own schedule," Robledo said.

Robledo is using social media, she goes door to door and she reminds people to vote early.

"I think early voting is the time for working class people to vote," Robledo said.

Melancon said early voting is going on now, weekdays, at the City Clerk's office at 321 N. Connelly St.

"Voting begins Saturday at the police substation at the North Plains Mall," Melancon said.

Once open, early voting will be happening at the mall Tuesdays through Saturdays 10 a.m to 6 p.m. through March 2.

Election day voting is at city polling places from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 5.
