82 food violations found at restaurants in Alachua County during inspections

A review of restaurants around Alachua County from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation last week fielded 82 total violations.

Of the 22 inspections conducted, at least six restaurants in Alachua County failed to meet health and safety standards last week.

Inspectors labeled 12 of the 82 violations as a high priority, 18 violations as an intermediate priority and 52 violations as a basic priority.

Four restaurants in Alachua County violated pest standards. Inspectors found four restaurants did not follow good handwashing and hygienic practices. The department also handed out seven violations in the county for food protection and cross-contamination.

Last week's inspections: 27 Alachua County restaurants failed food inspections over past month

Inspectors in Alachua County found two restaurants with two or more high-priority violations and six restaurants with five or more total violations.

Zen Noodles Bar, 3117 SW 34th St, suite 2, was cited on Oct. 20 with 15 total violations, Alachua County's most.

No Alachua County restaurants were closed.

Pest violations in Gainesville

  • Bagels And Noodles, 1222 W. University Ave., was cited on Oct. 21 with one pest violation among 12 total violations.

  • Bento Cafe, at 3841 SW Archer Road, suite D, was cited on Oct. 19 with one pest violation among six total violations.

  • Gainesville Golf & Country Club Inc, at 7300 SW 35 Way, was cited on Oct. 21 with one pest violation among two total violations.

  • Vale Food Company Gainesville, 3841 SW Archer Road, unit B, was cited on Oct. 19 with one pest violation among 13 total violations.

Inspections are reported through the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation, which says each review is a snapshot and restaurants could have more or fewer violations on other days.

High-priority violations are those that could cause food poisoning or injuries, such as problems with cooking, cooling and handwashing. Intermediate violations are those that could lead to risk factors that could contribute to food poisoning or injury, such as problems with personnel training. Basic violations are those that violate best practices.
