ADRIAN — Eighty-two high school students were inducted into the Lenawee Intermediate School District’s (LISD) chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) during a ceremony April 6.

NTHS is an honor society that celebrates and empowers career and technical education (CTE) students through recognition, networking and scholarship opportunities, a news release from the LISD said.

To be eligible for induction, students must meet rigorous standards at both the LISD Tech Center and their home school district, the release said. These standards include maintaining a 3.5 grade point average at the Tech Center and a 3.25 GPA at their local district, having a good attendance record, participating in a career-centered student organization, being in good standing and volunteering in the community.

“This was a fantastic evening celebrating the success of our top students,” Jake Graf, LISD Tech Center assistant principal, said in the release. “These students have excelled in academics, technical skills, leadership and service. They have a bright future ahead in their respective career pathways.”

Tech Center students collaborated to support the NTHS ceremony, the release said. Current NTHS members helped throughout the ceremony, and the Tech Center’s horticulture students provided flowers for the new inductees.

“I am very honored to be inducted (into NTHS) and know it will help when I apply for college,” Veronica Flores, Madison High School junior and health care careers student, said in the release. “My program at the LISD Tech Center has introduced me to different careers in the hospital setting through clinical experience opportunities and has guided me on what I want to do in the workforce.”

Caitlin Tessier, Onsted High School junior, said it means a lot to be inducted into the honor society because it's a reflection of her hard work in school. Tessier is an education career student at the Tech Center. She plans to earn her teaching degree in elementary education, the release said.

“My (LISD) Tech Center experience has made me really excited to become a teacher,” she shared in the news release.

The LISD Tech Center offers more than two dozen career and technical education programs that explore a variety of growing and in-demand careers, the release said. Local juniors and seniors can attend the Tech Center at no cost as part of their regular high school schedule. For more information, visit www.lisdtechcenter.com.
