85,000 NC vehicles unrepaired despite safety recalls, data shows

More than 2.5 million vehicles in the United States that have been issued a “Do Not Drive” or “Park Outside” safety recall still remain unrepaired, according to Carfax data.

At least 85,000 of those vehicles are in North Carolina and remain unrepaired despite the recalls.

“Do Not Drive” and “Park Outside” recalls are made by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and automakers. The Do Not Drive recall advises drivers not to drive their vehicles due to serious safety issues. The park outside recall is issued for vehicles with a high risk of causing a fire.

“Officials and communities need to break through consumer recall notice fatigue and drive home the message: We can save lives today by getting these recalls fixed,” Faisal Hasan of Carfax said.

Some of the car brands that are included on the “Do Not Drive” list include Chrysler, Kia, Dodge, Mazda, Ford, Subaru, Toyota and more, according to Carfax. You can check if your car has any open safety recalls by clicking here.
