85 foot realistic rock climbing tower coming to Easley, and two more summer kid-fun places

With the first official day of summer coming up, here are some of the newest attractions in the Anderson and Easley area to have fun.

Indoor climbing gym opening in Easley

For Laura and Marc Landau, rock climbing was date night.

The experience of belaying for each other and reaching their goals has been a passion for the two. That passion overflowed into a gym they opened in Florida and are about to open in Easley this week, projectROCK.

"We want to build a community so we don't put auto-belays in our gym so that you actually have to either climb with one of our people or climb with a friend so that you have that connection which is what we fell in love with climbing," Laura Landau said.

Whether it's with your child or best friend, she's excited to see that connection throughout the gym.

The main emphasis of the gym is to replicate realistic outdoor rock climbing which means rock realistic features in the construction.

The 15,000 square ft. gym at 2121 Farrs Bridge Rd. is home to walls reaching up to 85 feet which Landau said is the tallest in the U.S. of its kind.

They also have a speed climbing wall with the same holds and height found in olympic walls.

One area of the gym, American Valley, does utilize auto-belay and allows people to climb iconic features around the U.S. from Mount Rushmore to the Seattle Space Needle.

It is geared toward kids with shorter walls but can be enjoyed by adults as readily.

ProjectROCK is all things bouldering and climbing, but not the only attraction in its complex.

ProjectCHEER/ projectNINJA is a cheer, tumble and ninja facility offering teams and training.

The indoor climbing gym will open June 10 from 3 p.m.-10 p.m. and will continue Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. -10 p.m. and Sunday, June 12 from noon -8 p.m., their website says.

Trampoline park coming to Anderson

A Big Air Trampoline Park will be coming to Anderson in the old Ashley Furniture location beside PetSmart on Clemson Blvd.

Construction will begin in June with plans to open in late summer or early fall of this year, a Facebook post from the company said.

Anderson will be the third Upstate county to have the park after Greenville and Spartanburg.

The California-based franchise is known for their many trampoline features including dodgeball courts, ninja-warrior courses and foam pits.

Water zone opened on Lake Hartwell at Asbury Park

Asbury Park on Lake Hartwell will be home to a new inflatable water park on May 28, in time for summer weather.

Karen McCullough used to camp at Asbury before she said it closed in the 80s and she is behind the water park, more than $500,000 in construction costs. It comes with a dock and sand beach.

"The dream was to reopen Asbury," McCullough told the Independent Mail Tuesday. "The goal is to just allow a good wholesome place for families to have fun."
